Is it possible to thrive when all you seem to be able to do is survive?

Absolutely, it is possible to thrive even when things feel like you're just surviving. Here's why:

  • Survival is the foundation for thriving: Being alive and healthy is the first step towards anything else. Having your basic needs met creates a stable platform to build on.
  • Small wins can lead to big changes: Even when things are tough, look for the little victories. Maybe you managed to get a good night's sleep, finished a task you'd been putting off, or helped someone else. These small wins can build momentum and hope.
  • Challenges can foster growth: Difficult times can teach you valuable lessons about yourself and the world. You might learn resilience, resourcefulness, or the importance of community.
  • Shift your perspective: Sometimes a change in viewpoint can make a big difference. Instead of focusing on what you lack, try to appreciate what you have.

Here are some things you can do to start thriving:

  • Focus on what you can control: There's a lot in life that's outside our control, but there are also things we can influence. Focus on your own thoughts, actions, and reactions.
  • Set small goals: Don't try to overhaul your life overnight. Set small, achievable goals that will give you a sense of accomplishment.
  • Effort and committment: Be prepared to put in the effort required for change.  Be committed and consistent in your efforts.

  • Take care of yourself: Make sure you're getting enough sleep, eating healthy foods, and exercising regularly.

It almost seems too easy doesn't it.  I think the key is consistency.  You need to repeat something 21 times before it becomes a habit.  So all of the above suggestions on how to start thriving need committment and consistency.  It's not the end of the world if you fall off the wagon, but you do need to get back on if you want to see progress.  You can't just try something once and expect changes.  Remember, thriving is a journey, not a destination. There will be ups and downs along the way. But by focusing on the positive and taking care of yourself, you can move from surviving to thriving.
