Do you struggle with Motivation?
Ever wondered why you sometimes don't feel motivated, or the lack of motivation holds you back from doing the things you should or could be doing?
Well, firstly you're not alone. We often have times when we can lack motivation and that's not generally an issue. It becomes an issue if it starts holding you back in life.
I want to share with you five truths about motivation that helped me understand what it is and how we can manage it.
You see, most people think motivation comes first and then comes the action, but actually it's the action that comes first. One small step or action creates momentum and that's what fuels motivation. So if you are waiting for the motivation, you'll be waiting forever.
Here are the five truths:
- Motivation follows action, not the other way round.
- Discipline beats motivation every time.
- Small steps/wins create big momentum.
- You won't always feel like it, but you need to just do it anyway.
- Progress, not perfection keeps motivation alive.
An now, here's a hack for motivation. It's called the two minute rule. Here's how it works.
Tell yourself you'll just do it (the thing) for two minutes and then once you start, momentum takes over, and then motivation steps in.
Motivation isn't magic, it's momentum.
Start small and let your brain do the rest.
